Remembering Names

Image
"Oh I'm awful at names, but I'm great with faces."  How many times have you heard or said this? Most of us do. We are all awful at remembering each other's names, and yet, it seems like that shouldn't be the case. Why are we so bad at remembering names? And once you know someone for a while, you learn people's names pretty easily. So why is it so tough for so many of us to keep hold of this vital piece of information?

It's Been A While

Last post was 2015 - 7 years ago! But believe it or not, I'm still going hard at this, setting and achieving my goals. And I'm proud to say I'm more knowledgable and more resilient than ever. The name of the blog has changed, to something I think will resonate more strongly with the message I try to get across - that progress, not goals is what is most important.   We often get caught up in where we are not, rather than the road so far, and how we got here. So I'm going to take a moment to go over the biggest changes to my life since 2015, and what the future holds in store for me.

Working Hard to Get My Thrills

Yesterday I ran with a friend. He's in way better shape than me, so the prospect of running with him was intimidating. Truth is, his body appears to be in better shape, but cardiovascularly speaking, I turned out to be ahead of him by a long shot. We only ran 1.8 miles, and that was the farthest he could manage. We took a couple breaks along the way, and afterwards I compared our pulses after about 5 minutes of cooldown. I was still up at 125 BPM, but he was 140. That's significant, and it's an indicator of my overall health. I'm not the fittest guy ever, but it sure doesn't hurt to win once in a while.

How to Become Slim

Losing weight isn't easy. I tell you this from experience. I've lost weight, gained weight, stayed just about the same weight... If you struggle with weight loss, I feel your pain, and I've been there! But before you go sign yourself up for Fat Camp, or worse, schedule a stomach staple surgery (ew!) or even liposuction, consider this. Weight loss really shouldn't be complicated. There are plenty of people who manage to stay thin their whole lives. Is it purely good genetics, or are they doing something you're not.

I've Got Stress Coming Out My Ears

I'm a stressed out guy. Lately, I've been quite stressed, due mainly to work, and partially also because of recent updates to my life that include but are not limited to house-hunting.

A Day Off Is No Day Off

Today is my day off. From work, that is. My basic rule is, if my wife has time off, I have time off, because she generally works harder than I do. There are exceptions to that rule of course, but I try to give her the time she deserves. And yet, even though a day in which I don't go to the office is a day to relax, I'm choosing to relax today by doing active things.

Lost Weight! Slept Great!

Hey, that rhymes. If you look at the bottom of the page today, it'll say I'm down about 3 lb. from where I started, but that's not actually accurate. Because I used MyFitnessPal a few months ago to lose weight, it registers my starting weight as 184.6 lb. A few weeks ago I was way up at 188 lb. So I'm just adding an extra 3 lb. to whatever that number is. 6 lb.! Six pounds! I lost six lb.

Sweet Dreams

Sleep is incredibly important for your health, as I've found out. Without proper sleep, your appetite goes up, your energy goes down, along with your mood. Lack of sleep puts you in a bad position to get healthy. To maintain your health, you need an active lifestyle and the right mindset to maintain a balanced diet.

Catching Up On Missed Posts

The last you heard was Wednesday. There's a reason I didn't post between then and now, and it's not because I've been slacking off. Listen and hear my excuses.

The Bandwagon

I'm down to 183 lb.! Woo! Yesterday I behaved, cheated only a little, but worked hard enough all day that it seems to have allowed me to lose some of the water weight I was carrying around. Today I'm back on the bandwagon.
